a deeper understanding

whilst beverley’s ceramic practice is primarily based in the uk, she also works as a freelance interior designer for an international company. this work takes her around the world, travelling to many different countries.

these journeys have allowed her to discover the meaning of ‘place’. through experiencing such diverse cultures, ideas of transience and temporality have become integral parts of her work - to be rooted in the rootless, to be ‘nomadic’.

her ceramic practice engages with material, place and nomad, as a reflection on, and a reaction to these nomadic journeys. materials, cultural philosophies and experiences are gathered, translating the places that inspire her into the made object. making tangible connections between place, memory and moments of time.

the continuous development of a palette of material, colour, texture and form, coalescing physical particles into unique clay bodies. permanently capturing the essence and experience of the place within the object itself – ‘material nomad’.
